A man has been killed after a huge tree fell across a highway at Lilydale, north-east of Melbourne, as wild winds lash Victoria.
Police said a man was driving west on the Warburton Highway just before 11am on Friday when a tree fell across the road. He died at the scene and is yet to be formally identified.
The Country Fire Authority said the tree was very large and advised people nearby to be cautious as power lines had been torn down.
Emergency services are still on the scene and traffic is blocked in both directions between the Maroondah Highway and Leonard Road. Old Gippsland Road is the best alternative route.
Another large tree has fallen across train tracks between Ballan and Ballarat in the state's west. V/Line services on the Ballarat line have been disrupted and bus replacements are running.
