Online gambling in Belgium have been in the business for almost a decade. Many gamblers today prefer playing in online casinos at the comfort of their homes instead of driving to an actual casino.

Belgium extended laws in terms of online gambling to make it safe for those who are taking part in these kinds of gaming. Here are a brief list and description of gambling laws in Belgium:

Gambling Laws in Belgium

Gambling in Belgium is overseen by the Gaming Act of 7 May 1999. The law was modified in 2010 and extended stricter rules to licensed and unlicensed operators. Eventually, in 2011, these laws came to practise and this is also the year online gaming in Belgium came into existence.

Gambling in Belgium regardless of the platform is governed and operated by the Belgian Gaming Commission. They carry a list of blacklisted gambling sites and they demand fines when get caught. Remote gaming sites or casinos in Belgium operating without abiding by the rules of the commission will face consequences.

Fines and Licences in Belgium

Online licenses should be 9 A+ for casinos licences, 180 B+ for arcades, and 34 F1+ licences for wagers. Companies hold a “real world” casino should obtain A, B or F1 licence if they want to offer online services. The law states that there is no disparity between an online and offline casino.

Fines go up to 100,000 Euros will be fined against companies breaking the law of the commission. Individual websites are fined up to 25,000 EUROS if they use unlicensed websites. But, on the brighter note, these are very rare cases since it is almost impossible for Belgians to access to any unlicensed websites.

Deposit Protocols in Online Gaming

Legal casinos in Belgium have good banking options for gamblers. Most of them carry low to no-fee policies. The limit is high and bank card or credit is not always demanded. Anonymous gambling banking is also given as an option and is always preferred. Deposits are also often deposited in Euros.

Live Betting and Casinos

Casino de Spa and Grand Casino Brussels Viage are popular casinos for live betting and table games. Legal age for online gambling is 21 years old. Popular games and played often are slots, poker, horse racing, lottery, and roulette.

A brief history, during the 1300s card games, were very popular. In the 16th century, the first Belgian lottery was set up and during 1883, Hippodrome Wellington racecourse was built. In the year 1999, the Gaming Act of 1999 was implemented and online casinos partnered with the existing land-based casinos. In 2002, the National Lottery Act was passed and set up and managed countrywide lottery games. Online games became officially legal. In 2009, stricter laws were imposed to regulate gambling activities and online gaming in Belgium was prohibited. In 2010, The Belgian Gaming Act of 10 January 2010 was modified and some rules were changed to adapt to the stricter standards of offshore gaming.
