Business marketing online and in the press

  • Written by: Greg Rogers

Almost every business would benefit from new customers. Making profitable sales is the heartbeat of commerce.

The fundamentals of business success remain constant despite stunning advances in technology. Giving customers what they need ( or want ) will always be a head start to business success.

The problem is that other people will be competing for the same customers. Whether a business provides services, sells products or offers travel experiences, it has to "effectively" reach out to potential customers. "Effectively" is the key word in this discussion.

Communicating with customers is a vital part of daily business operations. Marketing is not optional. It is as important as any other part of running a business.

"Back in the day" flyers in letterboxes were very effective. They still are, except that the typical consumer will throw away cheap looking junk mail. Most potential customers will keep and read a glossy multi page product catalogue from a business like JBHIFI. Marketers have to keep up as the best businesses spend money to make sales.

"Spending money to make sales" applies equally to online marketing.

A vibrant informative well designed modern web site is a vital element in a marketing business plan. Thinking of JBHIFI again, its web site looks exactly like its product catalogues that are sent out as inserts in local newspapers rather than slipped into letterboxes. JBHIFI's consistently informative marketing materials feature low cost stunning modern technology to drive sales.

Their brochures are delivered to consumers by NewsCorp's penetrating local newspaper reach. Easy one stop business there!

The JBHIFI web site is not delivered. It has to be marketed as a product itself so that more and more people will see what is for sale.

There are a lot of websites competing with each other so some exceptional skill have to be used.

There are over 1 billion websites on the world wide web today. This milestone was first reached in September of 2014, as confirmed by NetCraft in its October 2014 Web Server Survey and first estimated and announced by Internet Live Stats (see the tweet from the inventor of the World Wide Web, Tim Berners-Lee). Google is the most important source of traffic for every web site. Make Google happy and you will be rewarded. Upset Google with SEO trickery and the consequences will include removal from search results. You can see for yourself the complexity of dealing with Google by reading posts from web site marketers on Google Groups

The average small business does not have the resources to run glossy web catalogues or produce a new glossy brochure each week, so they turn to search engine optimisation experts to work for them. Local website marketing experts like
Sydney SEO create content, fix mistakes, participate in social media for clients and interpret Google's rules to ensure that information about a business is presented by Google when people looking for their products or services type in a search.
