Interesting Tips for Those Invested in Pokémon Cards

Looking for a profitable, unique investment during these trying economic times? Check out graded Pokémon trading cards.

Yep, you heard us right.

Continuing from where we left off, Pokémon cards were once again one of the most popular items sold by the company. As reported by Pokeguardian, the Pokémon Company has now sold over 43 billion cards in total since the release of the first set of cards. This is an impressive feat, and it shows that the Pokemon brand is still going strong after over two decades!

Do you remember playing the card game Pokémon when you were younger? If you still have some of those cards, you could be in for a treat. Some Pokémon cards can be worth loads of money, so it might be worth taking a trip down to the basement to see if you can find any treasures.

But before you do anything else, here are some interesting facts and tips on investing in a particular card game and not in another franchise.

Collectibility

Some people want to buy rare Pokémon cards to add to their battle decks. This is because the rarer a card is, the more powerful it is likely to be. Other people want cards to complete a collection. This is because they want all the cards to trade with others or play the game with any card they want.

Tip: If you nab a rare card for yourself (like this Charizard, Lugia, or Mr. Mime), sort it out for investing, not for play. Or you can buy two of its kind if you’re fortunate enough—one’s for playing, and the other for investing. If possible, get them as graded Pokémon trading cards to maximise investment value.

Increased Demand

Demand increases mean people are willing to buy more of a good or service at a given price. This can be caused by population growth, income growth, or a change in preferences.

In this case, the demand for certain Pokemon cards is greater than the supply of those cards. This causes the price of the desired product to increase. As Pokémon's popularity grows, the need for specific cards also increases.

Tip: In connection with the previous one, buy cards for collecting, not playing or trading. With sales increasing by 142 percent as of 2020, according to a Bloomberg report, it might also be best to retire your Pokémon playing cards and treat them merely as investments so you avoid any damage to them, which increases their prices.

As We Conclude, Don’t Forget about Increased Prices, Too

Many children played with the original cards as a card game, resulting in heavy wear and tear. As a result, you can usually only find original cards with lots of damage. People nowadays know Pokémon cards more as collectible items than for the game they were first marketed for. This is because when these cards first came out, kids were the ones who bought them. They had no idea how valuable they would become.

Tip: Like rare comic books that can fetch millions of dollars, get your trading cards graded to properly determine their actual (re)sale value.
