Easter is just around the corner! Here are some great dress up ideas

  • Written by: Daily Bulletin

Easter is a momentous annual occasion – especially for the kiddies! If you plan on hosting or going to an easter party and dressing up is a prerequisite, or you simply want to dress up to amuse the kids of the family, you'll need a costume. In this post, we'll share some great dress-up ideas in case you're stumped for some.

Easter bunny costume

The most obvious choice for dressing up at easter is an easter bunny of course! Some bunny costumes can be scary! So if you are planning on dressing up and little kids will see you, it's best to choose a friendly-looking one to avoid giving them nightmares.

Here are some great easter bunny costume ideas:

The white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland

While Alice in Wonderland has nothing to do with Easter, the white rabbit is a good dress-up idea. It's playful and, well a bunny rabbit. This can be anything from a full rabbit costume or even something as simple as rabbit ears, a stopwatch and a bowtie.

Peter rabbit

This easter favourite makes for a cute costume idea. You can use Peter Rabbit for not only your costume but for a party set-up too. You can create this look with a full brown bunny suit and blue coat, or for something more minimalistic, you can opt for a blue button-up shirt, some brown pants and bunny ears.

E.B from the movie Hop

The iconic E.B from the movie Hop is another fun bunny costume idea. Again, you can make this costume as extra or low-key as you like. To pull off this look though, you'll need to have some bunny ears and a checkered shirt at the very least.

Religious easter costume

For many, Easter is of great importance for religious reasons. It's a Christian and cultural holiday that symbolises the resurrection of Jesus 3 days after his death by crucifixion. If you are looking for some religious easter costumes, here are some ideas:

A biblical shepherd

You'll find plenty of premade shepherd costumes at costume stores and online, and options range from realistic versions to colourful and playful costumes.

Virgin Mary

Virgin Mary is a popular biblical easter costume idea. You can attempt to make this costume yourself by using sheets of fabric to create a headpiece and dress, and you can finish off the look with a tassel tied around the waist and a bible in hand. If DIY isn't up your alley, you can find a lot of premade biblical Virgin Mary outfits online, or your local costume shop may have some in stock.

Jesus

Since easter is centred around Jesus himself, a Jesus themed costume for a biblical occasion/celebration is very fitting. When deciding on how you want this costume to look, you can find inspiration online, and then create the costume yourself or buy one premade. To create an authentic look, you can buy a Jesus inspired wig and beard and finish with some roman sandals.

Easter costume ideas for the kids

Most little kids love costumes and will get a thrill out of dressing up as their favourite easter themed character. Here are some simple ideas and some more elaborate ones:

Something low key

If going all out on a costume for your child is not really on your to-do list, you can still dress them in easter themed attire for a cute picture or a party. Nowadays, you can buy easter themed outfits practically anywhere. Some ideas include easter themed onesies, tracksuit sets, pyjamas, jumpers etc.

Something more elaborate

Bunny costumes can be purchased for children as young as a few months old, and they look super cute to boot! Other ideas include dressing up as a chick, an easter egg, a sunflower, or a carrot. You could even get in on the fun by creating an easter hat with your child. They can pick a theme, and you can create something together that is unique and customised to your child's interests. Feel like pulling a costume off and joining in? Check out some awesome hair wigs and change up your hair to match your costume!

Bunny Costume Accessories

If you aren't keen on the works when it comes to costumes, or you want to add some accessories, you can't go past these easter themed options.

Bunny ears – These are cheaps as chips, and you can buy them in all different styles, themes and colours. If you are hosting an Easter-themed party or going to one, these are a must-have!

Bunny tails – What better way to create a bunny look without a costume than with some bunny ears and a cute little cottontail?

Wooden eggs – These can be placed around the home as a decorative measure and can be painted or dyed and then hot glued onto hats.

Hoppy easter & have fun!

Remember, easter has a different meaning to everyone. Some love it and make a big deal of it every year, whereas some others aren't very interested in the concept and like to keep it simple so when choosing your costume, ensure that you are comfortable and as long as you like it, that's all that matters! The great thing is you have tonnes of easter options available, allowing you to do it your way!
