How to Take Care of a Rental Dress

Renting a dress is the smart modern woman’s way of getting to wear designer clothes without having to deal with the usual high price tags. Though this may be a convenient way of trying high-fashion pieces, it comes with a good deal of responsibility. As a renter, you need to take great care of the dress so you can avoid paying any damage fees and maintain a good working relationship with the rental dress company while allowing other fashion lovers to enjoy the clothes after you. Here’s what you need to do to keep that rental dress pristine:

Before you wear the dress:

  • Once you’ve received the dress, make sure to inspect it carefully and check for any existing damage such as tears, stains, or missing embellishments. Take photos or videos and immediately reach out to the rental company if anything is amiss. This will help to protect you from paying penalties on preexisting issues.
  • Be very gentle when trying on the dress and always handle it with care. Avoid forcefully pulling on zippers or stretching the fabric. If the dress doesn’t happen to fit perfectly, under no circumstances should you try to make any alterations by yourself. Always contact the company for help in these situations.
  • Before you put on the dress, make sure that any body products such as lotions, self-tanners, perfumes, or hairspray are completely dry. These products can end up damaging or staining delicate fabrics if you’re not careful.

While you’re wearing the dress:

  • Always be mindful of your surroundings and avoid leaning against walls or sitting on surfaces that could stain or snag the fabric. Be especially cautious when you’re around drinks or food so you can avoid spills.
  • Make sure you’ve got a stain remover with you since this can be very helpful for dealing with minor spills. Avoid rubbing and instead gently blot the stain with the remover. Do test the stain remover first on a part of the dress that can be easily concealed.
  • If at all possible, it’s a good idea to avoid drinking or eating while you’re wearing the rental dress, especially if it happens to be a light colour. Alternatively, always use a napkin so you can protect the dress from accidents.

After wearing the dress:

  • Do not try to clean the dress yourself unless you’ve received specific instructions from the rental company, and always follow any instructions to the letter.
  • Air out the dress in a well-ventilated area before returning it so any odours or scents would be lessened. Do avoid exposing it to direct sunlight since the rays can fade the colours.
  • Pack the dress in a garment bag or its original packaging so you can keep it protected while returning it.

Following these simple rules will help make sure that your rental dress is well-cared for, and you’ll get to establish a great relationship with the rental company. So, if you’re looking to rent a dress in Brisbane, reach out to Destiny Chic today, and we’ll help you pick the perfect outfit!
