(Las Vegas) – Nathan Adelson Hospice, Southern Nevada’s largest non-profit hospice, today announced that its 12th Annual Multicultural Luncheon will be held on March 8 at the Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

The event starts at 10:30 a.m., and the luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The theme this year is: “Imagining Life…A Crescendo to the End.” The keynote speaker -- Dr. BJ Miller, a nationally known speaker and physician who brings a unique experience to understanding end-of-life issues -- will address the importance of encouraging families to start the conversation about what they want at the end of life.

Miller will discuss the Zen Hospital Project, “The Art of Dying Well,” which engages participants in understanding the sensory awareness of life’s richness and how we can change the experience of dying. While studying at Princeton, an electric shock nearly cost him his life. Through this lens, Miller has developed an extraordinary sense of presence and understanding that brings his unique experience from the Zen Hospice Project (ZHP) in San Francisco.  His previous roles at ZHP include board member, executive director, and currently medical director and advocate. Zen Hospice Project is a pioneering integration of social and medical services grounded in spirituality and humanity.

“The program encourages families to communicate about the clinical intervention options and better define the end-of-life journey,” said Carole Fisher, president and chief executive officer of Nathan Adelson Hospice. “These conversations should happen prior to experiencing compromised health issues versus in the hospital or before it’s too late.”

The Multicultural Luncheon unites people from various cultures and faiths. It consistently relays important information and tools for industry professionals and the community in regards to healthcare trends and end-of-life care.

Tickets are $75 per person or $700 for a table of 10. Sponsorships are also available. For tickets to the luncheon or more information, call Stephanie Forbes at Nathan Adelson Hospice at 702-938-3910 or visit www.nah.org.
