Category leader grows diversity of headwear with a range of new styles across its sun, rain, HighEx and mountain life lines.
SEATTLE, Wash. – Already the category leader in hats melding superb outdoor function with aesthetic style lines, Outdoor Research continues to grow the diversity of its headwear line in Spring 2015 with styles across a range of categories – Sun, Rain, HighEx and Mountain Life – including new patent-pending designs. For instance, in its HighEx line, OR adds three new headwear styles and sun sleeves that employ innovative ActiveIce technology, an active-cooling technology that lowers skin temperature up to five degrees as you sweat. But the innovation doesn’t stop there.
Using a fabric that actively lowers skin temperature as you sweat, the ActiveIce Sun Sleeves, Cap, Ubertube and Headband not only assist in managing body temperature, they also offer serious sun protection with 50 UPF. These tools are ideal for runners, paddlers, climbers, backpackers or anyone else who spends extended time in hot, dry, sun-baked places. The technology starts with a 91 percent polyester/9 percent spandex stretch knit fabric that’s breathable, lightweight, quick drying and wicks sweat. With a thumb hole and loop for the middle finger, the Sun Sleeves can be worn in three different coverage configurations, and offer silicon grip pads on the palm, as well as reflective logos. The cap includes a sun cape on the back that can be tucked away when you don’t need it, as well as a folding split brim for easy packing. The Ubertube can be worn as a beanie, a balaclava, a neck gaiter and several other ways. $29, $29, $19 and $17 (for a pack of two headbands) respectively.
Helium Radar Rain Cap – Incredibly lightweight and waterproof, the Helium Radar Rain Cap combines the waterproof fabric of Outdoor Research’s best- selling rain jacket with the style and clean silhouette of our best-selling cap. It’s the perfect combination of wet-weather protection, on-the-trail performance and around-town style that can be crushed for easy accessibility in a backpack or travel bag. An external drawcord allows easy adjustment. $29.
Eos Hat – Offering unmatched breathability in hot, dry, sun-baked environments, the Eos is a wide- brim sun hat made from a comfy, breathable blend of 55 percent linen and 45 percent cotton. A darker Supplex nylon fabric under the brim reduces glare, and cotton twill interior headband keeps things cool when the mercury is soaring. $34.
Gin Joint Sun Bucket – Made of a cotton, polyester, spandex blend fabric, the Gin Joint Sun Bucket hat is a stylish and practical answer to blazing tropical sun and boiling trade winds. $29.
Radar Sun Runner – Outdoor Research’s Radar Cap is one of our best selling styles. By adding a detachable cape to the Radar silhouette, the Radar Sun Runner hat brings added sun protection to an already popular model. When not in use, the cape can be stowed in a pocket at the center back or completely removed. $37.
Santiago Fedora – Wearing the Santiago Fedora brings to mind sweeping views of the Sierra de Ramón on a summer day. So when you grab your passport and suitcase, make sure you pack this 100% paper straw sun hat, perfect for travel to any warm-weather destination. $34.
Maldives Hat – The beaches of the Maldive Islands are famous for their white sand, swaying palms and warm sun. The paper straw Maldives Hat is right at home in conditions like these, and its full-coverage brim keeps you shaded while enjoying warm Indian Ocean breezes. $38.
Shea Cap – A feminine take on the classic baseball cap, the linen/cotton blend Shea Cap keeps the sun at bay while adding a touch of style with its subtle side pleats. $30.
Women’s Raindance Sombrero – A waterproof/breathable Gore-Tex women’s rain hat with a flattering silhouette, the Raindance Sombrero minds all of the details that make for great weather protection. A brushed, tricot-lined crown pulls moisture away from your skin, the foam stiffened brim keep the hat afloat on the water, and one-hand adjustment makes dialing in fit on the go easy. $60.
