Looking for a fun way to support a worthy cause? The Black Diamonds College Scholarship Fund's Fall Fundraiser promises to be an event to remember - complete with live performances, fascinating speakers, a variety of vendors and gourmet treats.

The festival-style celebration is slated for 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24 at the Fernando Pullum Community Arts Center in Leimert Park, 3351 W. 43rd St. in Los Angeles, 90008.

The line-up will include alternative hip-hop collective Wylde Bunch, rock songstress Brig Feltus, popular musician Tommy Jay and hip-hop artist Lady X. More names are being added to the roster of artists, which will also include gospel musicians and spoken-word performers. Teachers from L.A. Unified School District, including Dr. April Brown-Parker and Dr. Margaret Doureau, will also speak on the importance of higher education.

The event will be hosted by comedian Carlo CottonDr. April Brown Parker and Yvette the Funny Lady. Proceeds from the fundraiser will support the Black Diamonds College Scholarship Fund, which was formed by Positive Black Images Magazine.

The minority scholarship will assist two outstanding African American students with college expenses. Positive Black Images founder and editor Vernon Heard said that creating a scholarship fit with the magazine's themes of education, family and empowering the community. "Creating this scholarship fund feels like the natural evolution for our mission," he said.

The scholarship was launched on May 18 - with a fund drive and a goal to raise $5,000. Two scholarships - one to an outstanding black male and one to an outstanding black female -- will be awarded through a national essay contest for high-achieving high school students. "Our contest theme requires students to discuss their academic blueprint for success, their target career path and how they will work to creative positive change in their own community," Heard said.
