UAE based FBMI, Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Initiative, is proud to launch its latest venture designed by young dynamic Architects and Artists Ibrahim Al Najjar and Saied Hany. The Egyptian pair have realised an intricate and original design for FBMI at Dubai Design Week where visitors will 'Step Into Yarns' as colored yarns are distributed in the space in an explosion of colors and compositions.

Ibrahim Al Najjar says: "The yarns are the very first basic tool in the carpet production. Using the abstract very modern cheerful look of the yarns stresses in the importance of this basic tool in the quality of production of FBMI handmade carpets".

The carpets produced through FBMI employs traditional crafting methods, operating strictly within Afghanistan. Wool from Afghan farmers, natural vegetables dyes and, of course, a local workforce. FBMI will display their latest carpet collection at Dubai Design Week. 'Step Into Yarns' design draws focus on the plight of Afghan women who are given an opportunity for employment and empowerment thanks to FBMI.

FBMI is thrilled to collaborate as well with 'Soundweaving – Middle East Edition'. 'Soundweaving – Middle East Edition' produced by Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest (MOME) in collaboration with Hybrid Art Management will premier at Tashkeel as part of Dubai Design Week 2015. Soundweaving – Middle East Edition acts as a bridge between two worlds, connecting two distinct cultures and an array of disparate realms of artistic experience.

At the core of the refashioned Soundweaving shown at Tashkeel are patterns derived from rugs created by Afghan women artisans, who work under the Fatima Bint Mohammed Initiative (FBMI). Soundweaving straddles art, handcraft, design and music, equally stimulating all senses, and calling for interaction. Using various media, the project works with multi-level transformatory methods balancing between the analogue and the digital, mapping visual and aural cultures.
