– Opportunities for Nurses with Nursing Informatics Degree Are Expanding Rapidly –
AURORA, Colo. – November 18, 2015 – Nurse informaticists are currently in high demand due to the U.S. Affordable Care Act (ACA) Federal Regulations, as well as the Medicare program.Ramona Yehle, Ph.D., MS, RN, associate professor in nursing at American Sentinel University recently shared her thoughts about the importance of nurses gaining higher education in information technology, such as informatics, to translate healthcare data into meaningful information in the November issue of ADVANCE for Nurses.
Dr. Yehle says that nurses with advanced knowledge of information technology will be necessary to implement the requirements of meaningful use and that the U.S. healthcare system is in desperate need of nurses who can analyze technologies from both the patient care and information technology frame of reference.
Nursing informatics is the practice of using nursing science and technology to enhance the pathway that data take to become knowledge to improve patient care.
Nursing informatics science enables the integration of data, information and knowledge to support patients, nurses, and other providers in their decision-making in all rules and settings.
“Opportunities for nurses with a nursing informatics degree are expanding rapidly, so it’ best for interested nurses to pursue a master’s in nursing informatics today,” says Dr. Yehle.
