Caravan & Camping Industry Association and Surfing NSW Sign Strategic Partnership

SYDNEY (Tuesday, 11 August 2015): Two of the State’s major member organisations who are passionate about promoting active outdoor lifestyles, the Caravan & Camping Industry Association NSW (CCIA) and Surfing NSW (SNSW), have signed a landmark partnership with the aim of bringing their activities to an ever expanding audience.

The partnership will also help create a link between surfing activities and NSW holiday parks.  Many parks have fantastic beachside locations up and down the coast and offer a wide range of accommodation options from campsites, to caravan sites, cabins to high end ‘glamping’ style experiences.

“This is a fantastic partnership opportunity for the CCIA. It is a great fit for both organisations and allows us to build greater awareness of the amazing experiences and products we offer across the State,” CCIA NSW CEO, Lyndel Gray said.

“The surfing community loves to travel and they love the outdoors, and CCIA members have some of the best park locations close to the beach and the best products - like campervans, camper trailers and tents - to make any surfing holiday great.

“We both share a strong engagement with family groups and together we are keen to promote the benefits of getting out and about in NSW, seeing new places, participating in events, enjoying outdoor activities and having active holiday experiences.”

“Surfing NSW is excited about the opportunity to work with CCIA as a strategic partner,” Surfing NSW CEO, Mark Windon said.

“With surfers being habitual travellers, this partnership with CCIA is a no-brainer for Surfing NSW. And given the amount of events we complete across the NSW coastline – as well as the number of Surfing NSW boardrider clubs, surf schools and members – we feel there’s some great synergies between the camping and surfing lifestyle.”

“Surfing NSW looks forward to the future with CCIA and further consolidating strategic partnerships such as this.”

“The CCIA has over 400 park members across NSW and, with our searchable website that allows people to find exactly the kind of park they are looking for, or purchase the type of caravan or camping product that best suits their needs, there is something for everyone,” Ms Gray said.

“We look forward to embracing this new partnership and working alongside our new partner SNSW to find new ways of promoting the events and outdoor activities of both organisations.”

It has a membership of over 710 businesses drawn from owners and operators of caravan and holiday parks, manufactured home estates, manufacturers, dealers and retailers of manufactured homes, caravans, motorhomes, camper trailers, camping equipment and accessories and the service industries.

Surfing NSW, established in 1963, is the largest and longest running of the recognised state bodies for the sport of surfing in Australia.

New Chair to lead Tourism and Events Queensland Board

Minister for Tourism and Major Events Kate Jones today announced Bob East as the new Chairperson of the Tourism and Events Queensland Board.

Ms Jones said Mr East brought more than 20-years tourism industry experience to the Board.

“As CEO of the Mantra Group, Mr East has been responsible for strengthening the company’s brand and developing the Group into one of the leading accommodation providers and marketers in Australasia,” she said.

“Mr East is well respected and highly regarded within the tourism sector. Mr East’s experience includes serving as a Board Member of the Gold Coast Tourism Corporation Limited, Tourism and Transport Forum (TTF), Tourism Accommodation Australia (TAA), Gold Coast Football Club (AFL) and is also Chair of the Tourism and Transport Forum’s Accommodation Sector Panel (TTF).”

Ms Jones said she had acted on advice from TEQ Board members and industry stakeholders to reduce the size of its membership from 14 to nine.

“This smaller Board, which draws on a wealth of experience from industry leaders across Queensland, will oversee high-level strategies to drive growth through investment in marketing and events, aviation access and creating jobs,” she said.

“I thank the outgoing Board members for their work and dedication to Queensland tourism.”

Mr East said it was a privilege to be appointed to the position and he looked forward to working with fellow Directors, the TEQ team and industry stakeholders to support growth in tourism and events in Queensland.

“Queensland has a competitive advantage in the diversity of destinations and experiences on offer, natural assets like the Great Barrier Reef and our proximity to Asian growth markets,” he said.

“There is a sense of optimism and confidence around the industry and we are well placed to take advantage of the opportunities ahead. Our ultimate aim is to get visitors to stay longer, spend more and come back again.”

Ms Jones said the Palaszczuk Government was committed to growing Queensland’s $23 billion tourism sector and the more than 200,000 jobs it supports.

“That’s why we’re investing $400 million in Queensland tourism as well as $100 million to protect the state’s iconic Great Barrier Reef,” she said.
