Congratulations to Our Team in The Australasian Industry Awards

  • Written by a contributor

Smarter Communities is proud to announce that its team, as a whole, and some individual members, were named finalists in the 2020-2021 Strata Community Australasian Awards.

Smarter Communities is a property and strata title management company that has been in operation since 1978. Its core mandate is to provide seamless strata management services to its clients. Smarter Communities has grown over the years and now has five brands under its umbrella. The award-winning teams and individuals all represent different brands, thus cementing the combined excellence of the company as a whole.

The Strata Community Australasian Awards was established to recognise and reward those who significantly contribute to the strata industry and community. The awards are meant to highlight initiatives whose innovation stands out and celebrate the biggest successes recorded by its members.

Therefore, the fact that our team was selected as finalists is, first and foremost, a great honour. Additionally, it is an acknowledgement of our emphasis on professionalism, ethical behaviour and best practices. It also demonstrates Smarter Communities’ considerable leadership within the strata industry.

The three finalists are:

Adelaide Strata & Community Management (ASCM)- Medium Strata Business.

Rikki Slaughter, Ernst Body Corporate Management- Strata Community Manager.

Jevon Taane, Ernst Body Corporate Management- Support Team Member.

Adelaide Strata & Community Management- ASCM is a medium-sized strata community management business that opened its doors in 1992. So, for almost 30 years, ASCM has been offering strata management services to small residential buildings and large commercial mixed-use properties alike. These diverse opportunities have enabled the company to amass a wealth of valuable experience, which it offers to every new customer. Moreover, ASCM’s size allows it to deliver more personalised services to the communities under its purview.

ASCM has a well-earned reputation of formulating ideal strategies for its owners’ corporations then putting them in place for their benefit. Such innovation has allowed the company to establish lasting client relationships and higher performing communities. These achievements have not gone unnoticed; in 2020, ASCM was also awarded Strata Community Australia’s Medium Strata Business of the Year Award. Therefore, perhaps this year’s nomination is simply an indication of continued excellence.

Ernst Body Corporate Management was established in 1979. Since then, it has become a powerhouse company with clear, concise procedures, solid teams and structures that impress and inspire. Ernst boats a diverse management portfolio consisting of resorts, hotels, smaller residential properties, townhouses, villa complexes and even high-rise residential and commercial buildings. The team members at Ernst bring a lot to the table with loads of industry experience, drive to enhance customer experiences and amiable personalities. It is no wonder that our individual finalists are all based in Ernst.

Strata Community Manager Rikki Slaughter embodies the ideal Committee manager and leader who goes above and beyond when providing body corporate management services. She is a multi-faceted professional who boasts an in-depth understanding of strata legislation and has exceptional people skills. These characteristics have earned her a reputation as a distinguished member of the strata industry who is highly regarded.

Support Team Member Jevon Taane primarily serves as a Technical Training Manager, a newly created role that seemed to fit right in with his personal and professional abilities. Since then, Jevon has been instrumental in implementing some major improvements that significantly impacted Ernst’s operations. What’s more, Jevon can also be credited with being a prominent driver in developing Queensland’s robust and cohesive team of strata professionals.

If these awards are anything to go by, then it is safe to say that the team at Smarter Communities is on the right track towards being an example of excellence within the strata industry.

Operating a Virtual Office

  • Written by NewsServices.com

The business rules have changed, and now we are running our businesses from home and in our cars. We no longer need to worry about parking passes and smells in the break room. It is so much more cost-effective to operate with no commercial lease to pay, and no one required to answer the phones, But with the changing landscape comes new challenges. When your whole company is represented by bits of code and a webpage, trouble can come if you don’t have the proper digital infrastructure to keep it safe and working right.

  • Cyber Security: When your assets are digital files and lists, it is impossible to put them in a safe or protect them in any physical way. These days criminals are sophisticated. Phishing, hacking, and ransomware are real concerns. And even the most secure companies can fall victim to cybercrime. It is essential to investigate cyber security services and ensure that you are doing all you can to keep your company’s data safe and backed up with heavy redundancy.

  • Call Centre: Even though you no longer have a front desk, you should still have a number people can call. There have been significant advances in call centre technology, and many companies no longer answer any calls. Call centre software is available, and call centre services are scalable to handle any size of company. When you are trying to grow your Internet business your call centre mustn’t be the thing that drives your customers away. Choosing a call centre service is an essential part of your public relations image.

  • Physical Address: Even though your company is online, and you have no office to visit, most businesses are required to have a physical address for legal and tax reasons. This is a benefit and not a liability. Today you can set up a virtual office that includes a physical address. It is usually included in the fee. And along with this, you can hire a mail reading service for the physical mail that comes along with the physical address.

  • Meeting Rooms: The most important deals are still done face to face. Although it is no longer cost-effective for most businesses to maintain a full-time meeting room, you will still need one occasionally. Whether for presentations or company meetings. Virtual office companies make meeting rooms available for usage on demand. For smaller meeting, and for small groups to collaborate. Workshare spaces are popping up all over, and they usually provide all the convenience of a large office, but at a per-person rental price.

Once you have all your bases covered, your data is secure, your phones are being answered, and you people still have places to work when the need comes. Then you can take full advantage of the digital marketplace. Your overhead is lower, and you have more money for promotion and to seek new business. So much has changed in the way we do business, but with the burden of high overhead a thing of the past, business in the future should be easier to access as a start-up and infinitely more flexible to adapt as opportunities arise.
