What you should know about Migration

  • Written by: News Co Media

Are you dreaming of leaving your country for some reasons best known to you? If yes, you are reading the right article. Firstly, all you need is to migrate. People’s migration depends on the goal and reason for relocation. However, individuals who migrate can be categorized into three: migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. Each category is defined extensively as the different circumstances that might occur and motivate a person to change their location and this is done mostly through a migration agent.

Therefore, migrants are generally described as persons who change the country of their residence for general reasons and purposes. The search for better job chances or healthcare needs is one of the reasons for migrants to leave their own country. Anybody that is changing is geographical location permanently is generally regarded as migrants.

Categories of Migration

Refugee: They are not slightly defined and are considered as persons who do not relocate voluntarily. The reasons for the refugees’ migration normally involve war actions within the country or other forms of oppression, as a result of either government or non-governmental course. They are usually inclined with people who must unwillingly change location urgently; therefore, such migrants will likely relocate without been documented.

Asylum seekers: They are included with persons who also leave their country unwilling, and not under any oppressing situations like war or death threats. The courage to leave the country for asylum seekers might involve a volatile economic or political circumstance in the country or an increase in the crime rate. Thus, asylum seekers relocate especially to escape a low quality of life.

Nomadic movements: They are commonly not regarded as migrations, as their movement is normally seasonal, there is no intent to settle in the new place, and only a few people have retained this form of lifestyle in this dispensation. Temporary movement for travel, pilgrimages, tourism, or the commute is also not referring to as migration, in the absence of an intention to live and settle in the visited places.

On the other hand, immigration refers to the international movement of persons to another country where they are not citizen or native to settle as permanent residents. Tourist, commuters, and other short-term visits in another country is excluded under the definition of immigration or migration; however, seasonal labour immigration is sometimes included.

Economic Effect of Immigration

Different research suggests that migration is helpful to both the receiving and sending countries. Research, with few anomalies, finds that immigration on average has positive economic effects on the native population, but is varied as to whether low-skilled immigration negatively affects low-skilled natives. Also, studies indicate that the termination of barriers to migration would have serious effects on world GDP.

Furthermore, research also provides different findings for the relationship between immigration and crime rate generally but finds for the United States that immigration either has no impact or reduces the crime rate. Also, the country of origin matters for speed and depth of immigrant assimilation, but there is considerable assimilation overall for both first- and second-generation immigrants.
