How to Ditch the Cruddy Job – It’s Not as Tricky as You Think

  • Written by: Daily Bulletin

New Year’s Resolution to ditch your current crappy job and get yourself a tidy income and a better life? Going from resolution to career revolution isn’t as hard, or risky as you might think. Studying accredited certificates online is simpler than ever before. You could be ditching that job sooner than you think. Decide why you hate the job, and what you want to do about it. And then do it. Simple right? No, well here’s how.

I am so bored, I know everything there is to know about my job”

Where to next: Project Management, Quality Auditing, Compliance

How to get there: A Diplomat of Project Management can be completed fully online these days and helps you to transition into a bigger picture role, implementing changes based on your extensive knowledge. You are, in short the most valuable person on the team. A Diploma in Quality Auditing or a Diploma in Business Compliance allows you to “check the quality and legality” of your peer’s work. These are both solid options for industrial roles, or roles in the finance sector.

And, because you’re transitioning into the strategic, big picture part of your current career, you may be eligible for extensive Recognition of Prior Learning. This makes studying faster and cheaper!

“I’m sick of the crappy pay and grunt work, I need a better job”

Where to next: Management

Going from line worker, to line manager, to middle manager to senior manager seems like an impossible career goal. If you’re in a company that likes to promote from within, you don’t need a degree in management, you only need better qualifications than your peers. Moving up the corporate ladder can be taken one rung at a time with a Certificate IV in Leadership and Management and then expanded to a Diploma in Business Leadership as your career takes off.

I hate this industry, but I don’t have any other skills”

Where to next: Career Pivot

You took a job because you didn’t know just what you wanted to do with your life, and now, you find yourself stuck. You are not alone. Career Pivoting is simpler than ever before. Each generation tries more career options than the last and the days of a “job for life” will end when the last Boomer retires. So, how do you capitalize on your transferable skills to ditch your job, for your calling?

Talk to a Career Counsellor at a Registered Training Organisation. These are specialists in identifying your transferable skills and helping you to choose a new career that interests you, and suits your skill set. Best of all, if you approach it through a learning institution, you won’t need to pay for expensive career coaching!
