Australia’s newest French café restaurant, Almost French Épicure, founded by acclaimed Maître Pâtissier and Maître Chocolatier Alex Charasse, has announced an exclusive partnership with one of France’s oldest and most respected Champagne houses, Lanson, further cementing its position as one of the most authentic French dining experiences in the country.

More than just a place to eat, Almost French Épicure has been created as a celebration of French culture, where food, atmosphere and social connection come together. The venue embraces the French love of sitting, chatting and lingering over exceptional food and drink, encouraging guests to slow down and truly enjoy the moment.

The partnership with Lanson Champagne allows diners to enjoy a glass or bottle of one of France’s most iconic champagnes alongside Charasse’s meticulously crafted French desserts and dishes, a pairing deeply rooted in French tradition.

Founded in 1760, Lanson is one of the oldest Champagne houses in France and is globally revered for its heritage, craftsmanship and distinctive style. The house is famous for avoiding malolactic fermentation, a rare technique that preserves the champagne’s natural freshness, elegance and ageing potential, qualities that have made Lanson a favourite among champagne purists for more than two centuries.

According to acclaimed Maître Pâtissier and Maître Chocolatier Alex Charasse, that difference is not nostalgia, it’s craft.

“Authentic French dining isn’t just about what’s on the plate,” Charasse said.

“It’s about technique, tradition and the way food brings people together. Champagne is part of that culture, and Lanson is an icon of France.”

Charasse first won acclaim with the opening of Almost French Pâtisserie, Bakery and Café in Richmond several years ago. The venue quickly became famous across Victoria for its exceptional French pastries and desserts, earning a loyal following and critical praise for its authenticity and craftsmanship.

Almost French Épicure marks the next evolution of the brand, expanding beyond pâtisserie into a fuller dining experience while remaining true to Charasse’s French roots.

“This new venue is about sharing joy,” Charasse said.

“The joy of French food, the joy of conversation and the joy of sitting together over something beautiful.”

With plans to continue expanding and opening new sites, Charasse hopes to take the spirit of Almost French across Australia, sharing not just French flavours, but the French way of life with communities nationwide.

The partnership with Lanson Champagne is another deliberate step in that journey, ensuring every detail reflects the heritage, quality and soul of true French dining.
