Student-run HBCU Records set to launch two artists announcing debut singles this May

Los Angeles, CA - May 2, 2016 -- Bethune-Cookman University (B-CU) in Daytona Beach, Florida has launched HBCU Records, a new student-run record label. Formed in 2015 by the Mike Curb Music Business, Entertainment & Sports Institute (Curb Institute), which was endowed by Mike Curb, the legendary record company mogul (Curb Records), politician (former Governor of California) and NASCAR owner (Curb Motorsports/Racing), HBCU Records is prepping for its new music releases.

The first acts signed to the label’s roster: L. Paul Jackson Jr. and DJ DGlove will debut music from their projects in May 2016. Starting with DJ DGlove’s track, "Good Time" featuring Curb Records artist Larry Gordon and L. Paul Jackson Jr.’s, "Champion," HBCU Records has reinvigorated the focus on artist development with the launch of these two artists. "Good Time" and "Champion" will premiere on HBCU Records’ official YouTube and VEVO channels.

Dr. Edison O. Jackson, President of Bethune-Cookman University said in a statement:

"At Bethune-Cookman University (B-CU), we encourage ideas that assist our university in its quest to "ascend to greatness." The Mike Curb Institute at B-CU launched a student-run record label and in just one year has formed a student leadership team, signed 2 students to its label roster and is now preparing to release their debut singles nationally. This represents academic integration at its finest."

HBCU Records provides students with the day-to-day experience of running a record label and also teaches aspiring entertainment industry professionals the fundamentals of the music business. "I am excited to see students learning all aspects of developing artists," said Mike Curb, Founder and Chairman of Curb Records. "This is a shining example of how to apply what students learn in the classroom to real world experiences."

Founded by the legendary historical figure, Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, B-CU has a rich musical heritage which includes its Concert Chorale, the Wildcats Marching Band and now the emergence of HBCU Records.
