A new travelling display at the Pioneer Museum explores the postcard as a communication device and advertiser of Wyoming’s natural and cultural landscape. Color and Black and White images show how the postcards promoted Wyoming as a “vacation dreamland,” and “wonderland of the West.” The display is in the western gallery of the Pioneer Museum through June.

In addition to the statewide images, dozens of local postcards from the museum’s collection will also be on display. “Fremont County had plenty of attractions to promote,” said museum Visitor Services Coordinator Randy Wise. “Everything from Sinks Canyon, The Wind River Indian Reservation, rodeo cowboys, and the Wind River Range were featured.”

The display is part of the Wyoming State Museum’s traveling exhibit program. Displays about Wyoming’s history are available to museums, schools and other cultural institutions throughout the state. The State Museum in Cheyenne has permanent galleries and rotating displays open to the public covering the history of the state. The State Museum is located at 2301 Central Ave. in Cheyenne, and is open 9-4:30 M-Sat and admission is free.

The Pioneer Museum’s hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Call the museum at 307-332-3373 for more information, or visit the museum Facebook page: Pioneer Museum Lander Wyoming. www.fremontcountymuseums.com
