PHOENIX, AZ (July 14,2015) - LaneTerralever, one of the Southwest’s largest full-service marketing agencies, has been appointed by the Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC), the leading global charity dedicated to the conservation and protection of whales and dolphins, to serve as its North American public relations agency of record.

To celebrate World Orca Day today, WDC and LaneTerralever introduce #MigrationNation, a bold public relations campaign to raise awareness surrounding the plight of the critically endangered Southern Resident Orcas who make their home in the waters of the Pacific Northwest. “This educational campaign will focus on the powerful connections between people, orcas in the wild and our shared ecosystem. It’s important we help the public understand we need to increase the Southern Resident population to ensure their survival,” said Colleen Weiler, Rekos Fellow for Orca Conservation. “The #MigrationNation call to action will inspire people to get involved and share their personal stories about these majestic orcas and our shared habitat,” said Weiler.

A declining population of migrating Chinook salmon, the Southern Residents’ primary food source, is the top threat preventing the recovery of the Southern Resident orca population. They are the only orca population listed under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) in the United States, with fewer than 80 individuals remaining in the wild. “Despite a decade of recovery efforts since their 2005 ESA listing, the Southern Residents have continued to lose members. If we don’t see their population start to grow soon, we may well lose them forever. We selected LaneTerralever for this critical effort because of their passion for the cause and outstanding creative inspiration,” said Weiler.

“We are thrilled to add WDC to our growing portfolio of cause-related brands,” said Beau Lane, CEO of LaneTerralever. “WDC is defending these remarkable creatures against the many threats they face, including a declining food source. We are looking forward to igniting the #MigrationNation campaign and bringing greater awareness to conservation efforts.”

Join the #MigrationNation movement today.
