Men getting more massage than women

  • Written by: Pitch Engine

Charleston, SC, Wednesday August 26th 2015

While it's still true that more women than men get massage, men are visiting massage therapists more frequently than women these days. “We’re seeing women who get massage receive, on average, 3.7 massages a year.  Men who receive massage are going more frequently, an average of 4.9 times a year.”, says Mark Volkmann, CEO of MassageBook.

MassageBook.com, a website which allows people to find and book skilled massage therapists online, has over 10,000 massage therapists on its platform which helps massage businesses grow and manage their businesses. Like Open Table for massage, the data MassageBook collects offers visibility into consumer trends. When asked if he was surprised at seeing men receiving massage more often, Mark Volkmann, CEO of MassageBook and twenty year veteran of the massage profession, said “Many men think of massage in a more clinical sense. Massage is an effective way to recover from athletic activities, and really helps keep the body performing with less pain as it gets older. More men are discovering highly skilled local massage therapists.  There's an amazing amount of massage therapist talent that specializes in effective yet lesser known techniques which can help people more than traditional Swedish massage in a spa setting.”
