Do you need an eye-test before buying reading glasses?

Most people face confusion while buying reading glasses. As the term itself doesn’t indicate much, the confusion remains inevitable. However, when it’s related to reading, things must be taken seriously as eyesight or vision is vital for any human being.

Reading glasses are available in a wide variety and styling features. They are also equipped with protective features against potential crashes. However, it must be understood that Reading Glasses are only meant to help your eyes read closer and smaller objects like books, documents, or anything tiny found on the internet.

But do you need an eye-test to buy reading glass?

The answer would be NO unanimously. As reading glasses are solely built for magnifying purposes, they can be used by anyone who is facing trouble reading tiny details of a book or document.

Eye-test is however recommended only if you are aging or turning 40+. With aging, comes Presbyopia, a chronic eye condition where the victim may gradually lose vision to read closer or smaller objects. It is a type of long-sightedness or Hyperopia

Many people would rather use a cheap reading glass without any eye-test to fit their requirement but while doing so, they may be ignoring or delaying the process of eye-test, which is offered by a genuine optometrist or optician.

How to avoid an eye-test or wearing reading glasses?

If you are to avoid an eye-test, then it is imperative to keep your eyes healthy. Very few people have been successful to completely live off without using any kind of glasses. Reading glasses may also be required when you age past 40; however, it can be delayed if you start taking healthy steps for long-lasting vision.

Tips for healthy eyes and enhancing your vision

  1. Avoid Smoking and Alcohol - Regular smoking and drinking alcohol are primarily responsible for cataracts and macular degeneration.
  2. Wear Sunglasses – Protect your vital eye parts like the retina and cornea and prevent cataracts issues by wearing sunglasses with UV protection.
  3. Take Quick Breaks – While working in front of a computer or digital devices, take regular breaks away from the screen or lighting element, which helps in preventing digital eye-strain.
  4. Proper Diet – To maintain nourishment for your valuable eyes you must eat lots of green leafy vegetables, carrots, and omega-3 rich foods like fishes, walnuts, and soybean oil.
  5. Wash Eyes: Make a habit of cleaning your eyes regularly or whenever they are exposed to dust and pollutants.
