Thinking of Selling Over Christmas? Read This First

If you’re thinking of selling your home over the Christmas period, you might want to wait just a little longer. There are exciting new paint colours set to change the look of homes in 2023, and these are designed to upscale the value of your home when it hits the market.

These new paint colour predictions are released every year by the world’s interior design experts and paint companies. Usually, they follow an overall theme which will typify the interior design trends of the year ahead. For 2023, the theme is all about getting back to nature.

2023 Hues You Need To Know About

There are a few new paint colours that are making waves in the paint world for 2023. The hottest of these include:

  • Spanish Moss by Krylon: A dark green colour that looks great on accent furniture and particularly in bright, airy bathrooms - but not necessarily on your walls. The beauty of Spanish Moss is it's perfect to balance cool or warm accents, depending on the look you are trying to create. It looks great in living areas and bedrooms and pairs well with gold and sandstone.

  • Raspberry Blush by Benjamin Moore: A light, airy red colour that’s sure to brighten up any room, though it is best used in bathrooms or as a feature wall.

  • Dulux's Purple Celebration is as bold as they come. Whether you want a feature wall in the living room or a purple ceiling to balance stark white walls, this colour really pushes the envelope and encourages DIY painters to think outside the box.

  • Terra Rosa by Dunn-Edwards: A deep-ish purple hue greets you in this paint colour, perhaps best suited for use on the exterior to give your home a unique colouration, or in the conservatory to offer a bright and airy feeling amid an outdoor backdrop. It is the perfect warm hue if you are trying to create a more sophisticated aesthetic. If that's too bold, Sherwin-Williams' Redend Point is a softer, more subtle shade. It's ideal for bedrooms, entryways, or even to upcycle furniture.

  • Redend Point by Sherwin-Williams: This blend of light pink and beige adds a warm, airy feeling to any room. It might be best used in the bedroom of either yourself or your teenage daughter - not striking, by any means, a subdued, calming colour.

Make Sure You Prep First

Before you start browsing for new paint colours, however, it is critical you learn how to prepare your space for painting.

According to Stephen Cochrane, owner of A.J Cochrane & Sons, “DIY painters should be aware that preparing the walls is the most important step in getting a perfect outcome.”

This means following basic steps like washing the walls before you paint them, sanding the dry surface to take off old paint or rough spots on walls, and finally taping off the edges to ensure that the paint doesn’t touch where you don’t want it to.

Though you may consider DIYing your painting, there’s plenty left to do once you’ve selected your paint of choice. And its best you hire a professional.

Choosing the paint colours is only the first step,” Stephen says. “Making sure the colours create the final finish you’re after is all in the detail of the paintwork itself.”

If you’re going to sell your home over the festive season, take advantage of these new 2023 hues and you might just increase your return in a tough housing market.
