4 Effective Ways to Deal with Pests During Monsoons

  • Written by: NewsServices.com

Hurricanes and storms can cause severe damage in Australian homes. Sometimes, you see trees obstructing the roads, light poles crashing in front of houses, and water logged in the streets. There's one thing common in all these things – they are breeding spots for pests. Pests thrive in moist areas and near trees and logged water. If you aren't careful, they can infest your home and wreak havoc. Therefore, you need to deal with the pests effectively so that they can't affect your family. Here are a few things you can keep in mind.

1. Drain standing water

Standing water is heaven for mosquitoes. They would multiply their families within days and make it irritating to live in your own house. Storm and heavy rain can cause water logging around your house. But you can prepare for the situation by clearing dead leaves, twigs, and branches from the drains. These things block the drain and don't allow water to pass properly. Check some of the obvious places like flower pots, clogged gutters, garbage cans, grill covers, and birdbaths for standing water. Clean them as soon as possible to prevent mosquitoes from accumulating around your house.

2. Contact a nearby pest control company

A pest control Sydney can identify the places that pests can attack. They can accordingly set up traps or suggest methods to keep the pests away. For example, installing mosquito nets on windows can prevent flies and mosquitoes from coming inside your house. Residential pest control includes various services, such as cockroach pest control, rats pest control, insect control, child-friendly and pet-safe pest control, and pest inspection. The professionals will be better at recommending services depending on your home's location and pests around the house.

3. Throw away damaged debris and tainted food

Garbage bags, stale food in the kitchen, damaged debris, and vegetable peels attract various pests in your house. Bad weather can cause extended power outages in Sydney. That may result in spoiled food in your refrigerator. If you are aware of this, make sure you throw the food away before flies start swarming on it. Flies hover over rotten food, thus exposing your family members to various types of diseases. Throw the food away in a place that's not close to your house. Also, don't forget to take out the trash every day. Monsoons cause various insects to breed in and around trees. They may soon find refuge in your home if they see garbage, standing water, or debris lying around.

4. Identify water damage

Water damages can cause ant and termite infiltrations. It's still easy to get rid of ants, but termites can destroy furniture and fixtures over time. You should keep an eye on the possible water damages in your house after a storm. If you are not sure where to look, you can contact a pest control company for a quick inspection.

Pests are never welcome in any house. You can stop a potential infestation by following the tips above. Their favorite season is the monsoon. Turn that around to keep your family safe and free from diseases that pests usually spread.
