Home Interior Tips – Finding the Perfect Colour Palette

  • Written by: News Co

Colour adds life to a living space. However, settling on the best colour design for your home is hard. Interior designers spend years learning the craft while most people borrow their ideas from existing templates. How to settle on the colour palette for your home is not written on stone, but you must ensure it’s the perfect colours. Here are a few tips for finding the perfect colour palette

Use a Template

Finding colours for the entire house is hard. The colour wheel is full of different colours with varied hues. Picking one is a daunting task. Moreover, selecting combinations that will go well together is harder. If you find the whole selection process overwhelming, the best option is to use a template. Colour design templates can be sourced from different places. Here is where the internet becomes your friend. You can look up interior designs on different platforms and see what catches your eye. You can also look up magazines on interior designs for inspiration. Once you have settled on a template, simply replicate what you see. However, ensure your template matches the architectural design of your home for similar results.

Determine the Function of Space

Colour goes with function. Some spaces work well with bold colours while others are reserved for neutral hues. Combinations are possible but you must understand the psychology of colour before picking the paint brush. Soft, neutral colours are relaxing to the eye and are good for lounges and study areas. French Provincial furniture also looks stunning in these colours. They also work well for common spaces like bathrooms, hallways and staircases. On the other hand, bold colours work well in entertainment areas and bedrooms. Nonetheless, you can use combinations to enhance style and break mundane colour patterns.

Pick a Theme

There are different approaches to theme selection for a house. One option is to pick one theme for the entire house and adjust the designs minimally for each space. This works well for houses with open plan designs. Since most spaces are visible from the access ways, a common theme looks easy on the eye as you move through the space. However, you can play around with the colour hues to add style. If your home has numerous closed spaces you can pick themes independently. What you choose is solely based on personal preference. However, access areas and common spaces must either share the same theme or not clash with the themes in adjacent spaces.

Test Out Your Choices

It's one thing to dream up colour designs but visualizing the final product might warrant some painting. You can use test pots to paint out your own swatches and try them in different spaces. Assess if the colours are a perfect fit for your theme and blend well. Although sample cards are good for creating visual templates, they are often deceptive. If your assessment is satisfactory you can proceed to painting

Consult An Interior Designer

It goes without saying that the business of choosing colours and settling on themes is hard. As a result, professional help comes in handy when you are spoilt for choice and confused. Interior designers have experience in finding the perfect colour palette for a home. You only need to tell them your vision and they will work to make it a reality. Moreover, interior designers offer advice on ways to style your home for maximum colour effect. Although hiring a designer is costly, it’s a worthwhile investment.

A good colour palette does wonders to a living space. It not only makes a house feel like a home but also adds life to a space. Don’t settle for a mundane life, add some colour to your home.
