Top 5 Restaurants in Sutherland Shire, NSW, Australia

  • Written by: Samantha Ball

Our gorgeous beaches and nature walks are only part of what makes Sutherland Shire such a great place to live. We're also home to some of Australia's best restaurants. There are too many great restaurants to name, but here's a list of Sutherland Shire's five best to get you started:

1. Alphabet St.

If you're craving authentic Thai cuisine, you'll love Alphabet St. on 5/8 on The Kingsway. Their menu has something for everyone, including pork belly, grilled fish, dumplings, and several vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. If you're dining with a large group, we recommend trying their banquet option.

Alphabet St. is quite popular, so booking in advance is an absolute must. They’re closed Monday, but they are open 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. (9 p.m. on Sunday) the rest of the week. They're also open for lunch from Friday to Sunday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

2. Albi's Taverna

Albi's Taverna on 1-2/1 Ocean Grove Ave offers a great selection of authentic Italian and Mediterranean food. They're a newer restaurant, founded by head chef Albi Cuni just a few years ago. Still, they've managed to make a name for themselves through their rustic ambience and flavourful dishes, including lamb shoulder, calamari, squid, and gnocchi.

Albi's is open 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. from Tuesday to Thursday and 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. (9 p.m. on Sunday) from Friday to Sunday.

3. Giro Osteria

Gino Osteria is an Italian restaurant on 31 McDonald St, right by the beach. Their stellar menu offers something for everyone, including gnocchi, duck ragu, meatballs, and much more. With their friendly staff and large portion-sizes, Giro Osteria is a great place to bring friends and family.

We recommend ordering some garlic bread and drinks to make your meal extra special. Giro Osteria is open for supper from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. all week. If you're coming for lunch, they're also open from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. from Thursday to Sunday.

4. Summer Salt

Summer Salt is one of Australia's most elegant seafood restaurants. Located on 66 Mitchell Rd, Summer Salt offers a warm environment with a breathtaking view of the coast. You can enjoy this view by drinking wine and eating some of their delicious seafood, including snapper, scallops, and prawns. Their food is on the pricier side, but the flavour is more than worth it if you love seafood and decadent desserts.

Open now for over 30 years, Summer Salt is a great place to stop in Sutherland Shire. They're closed on Monday and Tuesday, but they're open every other day for both lunch and supper.

5. Sealevel Restaurant

Located on 2 Kingsway, Sealevel Restaurant is one of NSW's best seafood restaurants. They offer a lovely view of the beach, a welcoming staff, and an atmosphere that's sophisticated and elegant without being pretentious. Their dishes also look as amazing as they taste, whether you're ordering the kingfish sashimi or their popular seafood platter.

This family-owned and operated restaurant is open every day from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. They also serve breakfast on the weekend from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
